The project was to respect the following requirements:
• create a neat and simple public space that enhances the existing historical buildings,
• improve pedestrian flows and ensure accessibility of emergency services,
• reduce the important space devoted to car traffic and increase routes for cyclists and pedestrians,
• create open and interlinked spaces devoted to common activities,
• plant vegetation at the foot of the frontages despite the little space available,
• design a planted natural stone fountain in order to create a strong link to the town hall square,
• create a functional environmental-friendly lighting, which highlights the historical buildings and squares.
